Tayshaun Prince joins USA Team

May 23, 2007

Former Kentucky Wildcat and current Detroit Pistons star Tayshaun Prince has been added to the USA Basketball team.

Jerry Colangelo officially announced Wednesday in Las Vegas the addition of Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz), Tyson Chandler (New Orleans Hornets), Kevin Durant (University of Texas), Jason Kidd (New Jersey Nets), Mike Miller (Memphis Grizzlies), Greg Oden (Ohio State University), Tayshaun Prince (Detroit Pistons) and Deron Williams (Utah Jazz) to the Senior National Team roster.

Congrats to Tay, he’s a great player and it’s well deserved. I think he has a good chance of possibly being a starter and making a huge impact for the team.

Aaron’s UK Basketball Blog sends us to a story about coach Gillispie finally getting around to look at houses.

Over at A Sea of Blue…they are tired of the UMass story. (as many of us are) They point to an article that mentions PG Brandon Jennings announcing his college decision in July.

If you haven’t seen it…Wildcats Thunder Blog has their “Game of the Week” 1948 NCAA Championship Game UK vs Baylor. They provide a rundown including photos etc. (You’ll enjoy it)

Delusional Disorder

May 21, 2007

A Sea of Blue has posted a response to the crazy article by Terence Moore (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution) that I posted about earlier.

I think it’s a good read, and you should check it out.

What is new and blue?

May 21, 2007

As rumored this past week on message boards. Scott Holsopple, Kentucky’s strength and conditioning coach, will be leaving Kentucky. He will be going to Florida to whip their Football team into shape.

This sucks, but what can you do? When you’re good at what you do, people will come calling. It’s disappointing and we could really use him as A Sea of Blue points out in their post on the situation.

Another story…Andy Katz tells us how Kentucky will pay $50K to get out of their game with UMass. The folks at Massachusetts are none to happy about this.

A Sea of Blue also has a post about this you should read. (Those guys must stay up all night!)

Terence Moore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution gave us “Wildcat Wackos” a post yesterday on Tubby Smith. It’s basically calling us Cry babies and talking about how we whine, and we ran him off.

Update: John Clay has a post on his blog about this. Nice read
Update: A Sea of Blue has a great response to this post.

Big Blue Linky Time

May 20, 2007

Another slow news day, so here are some links for your enjoyment.

A Sea of Blue shows us how delusional some Florida fans can be. (I know Florida wants to be Kentucky so bad, but it’s not going to happen. Please enjoy your recent success, you will never reach UK’s legendary status in basketball. Don’t forget! you’re a football school.)

Tim Stevens of The News Observer tells us how Patrick Patterson seen through Devil K, and just couldn’t click with the other Devils. (PPat is a very smart young man.)

Jerry Tipton gives us more on Patterson, the saga, aftermath, ESPN, Gillispie, Smith and everything in between. (By the way, ESPN sucks and momma Patterson knows it.)

There’s not been much going on since the Patterson signing.

Aaron’s UK Basketball Blog links to an article that talks about why more elite players will wait longer to sign. What’s the reason?

Gary Parrish of CBS Sportsline takes a look at questions concerning his piece on college basketball programs most on track to be powers over the next five years. He also makes his case for Kentucky.

Quotes from Billy Gillispie Press Conference

May 18, 2007

Coach Billy Gillispie had a press conference discussing Patrick Patterson, the recruiting class, among other things. Here are some quotes from it.

On his roster being complete…

You probably won’t ever hear me say it’s complete until we have 13 McDonalds’ All-Americans, and they’ve already played for two or three years, and we have 13 more coming in. Complete is a term that I guess you could say just about anything.”

On the capabilities of incoming freshmen Alex Legion and Patrick Patterson…

I think with Alex we’re not only getting a great basketball player, but also a great leader and teammate. Anytime you have a guy that’s been with you for a month, and he’s helping you recruit other guys; that shows you that he wants to win. It shows you that it’s not just about him being a great shooter and player, but that he’s got those intangibles about him that can easily get overlooked.”

Patrick Patterson notes

May 16, 2007

It’s a job well done by coach Gillispie. He comes in and is able to land one of the most sought after recruits. I believe this is only the beginning of great things to come in the future for the program.

It’s a terrific pickup and he will fill a void left inside with the loss of Morris.

Notes from the presser…

Happy UK fans cheering

Patterson said one of the main deciding factors was the distance. He wanted to be closer to his family and friends so they could see him play etc.

It was basically between Kentucky and Florida, he wasn’t feelin’ much from the Duke basketball program.

He thinks coach Gillispie is a great coach and mentioned what he done at A&M. Said, coach Gillispie told him he would be an impact player his freshman year.
