Hump Links for this week
September 19, 2007 - 5:37 am

Here’s this week’s edition of “Hump Links”, with a little of this and a little of that. There’s not too much basketball news happening, as football is dominating the headlines.
Friendly Barb?
Billy Gillispie was one of the coaches that attended the “Legends in Sports Rivalry Dinner” on Monday night.
The highlight of the night included former coaches Eddie Sutton and Billy Tubbs, reminiscing and trading some friendly barbs with one another.
One exchange was Tubbs accusing Sutton of failing to schedule a return game against OU when Sutton was at Arkansas.
Sutton suggested that he settled the debt after becoming Kentucky’s coach.
When I couldn’t return the game, Billy, we were
recruiting Harvey Grant and he was going to come to Kentucky,” Sutton said. “He got into trouble at a junior college up there and we backed off and that was my amends to you. I sent you Harvey Grant.”
Tubbs responded with…
The reason you sent me Harvey Grant is I heard you were over the salary cap that year.”
I’ll just leave it at that. I’m sure many of you already know what he was getting at.
Morgan Update
J’Mison Morgan has returned home uncommitted, after his visit to Kansas.
Morgan still may make visits to Kentucky Alabama and UCLA.
He said he’ll announce his decision on Nov. 2, his birthday.
Madness Visit
Add Jon Hood to the list of recruits attending Kentucky’s Midnight Madness next month.
He’s already visited Tennessee, Indiana, Georgia and Western Kentucky. He also plans on visiting Mississippi, Duke, Florida and Georgia Tech.
Bring Back the Barns
SI’s Luke Winn, gives his proposal of venues to be used during the “Big Dance”.
SOUTH REGION
First/Second Round Sites
Rupp Arena, Lexington, Ky.: Rupp is one of the few arenas that the current NCAA tournament has right; in ‘07, it hosted an early-round pod that included now-Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie’s Texas A&M squad. The relevant history here — in addition to UK’s seven national-title banners in the rafters — is that Rupp was the scene of Villanova’s miraculous title run in 1985. If the building weren’t attached to a shopping mall, I’d consider it for the Regional Finals.
