Let the Madness begin

October 12, 2007

The day has finally arrived.

Here’s a little Pre-Madness post

Kentucky fans across the nation will be introduced to this year’s squad. For the incoming freshmen, they will get a close look at the spectacle that is Big Blue Madness.

Now, of course Kentucky will be entertaining a nice class of recruits with the hopes of making a lasting impression, with them choosing to become a Cat.

As of now, some of the recruits expected to attend are Verdell Jones, J’Mison Morgan, Chris Singleton, Jon Hood, Garrett Stutz and Ralph Sampson Jr.

Speaking of Verdell Jones, His father has made it look like Kentucky is the leader of the pack right now.

Also making the trip will be already committed Cats…Darius Miller (Who plans to help with the recruiting…lol) and Dakotah Euton. DeAndre Liggins may also attend.

Hump Links: A Day Early

October 9, 2007

Big Blue Madness is now just around the corner! Check your local listings.

I unfortunately won’t be able to post the normal Wednesday update, so this week’s “Hump Links” are a day early.

Word is that Derrick Jasper, Joe Crawford and Jared Carter are expected to participate in some fashion at Big Blue Madness.

Recruit Update:

Four star recruit Chris Singleton talked to coach Gillispie Sunday night and is ready to attend Big Blue Madness.

Upcoming Season:

Brett Dawson has a nice read on seniors Joe Crawford and Ramel Bradley going into their last year at Kentucky. It contains some great quotes.

Jerry Tipton looks at the incoming freshmen and the pressures that exist.

Patrick Patterson on the expectation…

A lot,” A ton. There’s a bunch of weight on my back.”

Tipton also has a few Kentucky related tidbits in his “UK Basketball Notebook“. You’ll find former Cats celebrating b-days, Preston LeMaster coaching and how Billy Gillispie impressed the ladies at a recent UK clinic for women.

Excitement:

Five reasons to get excited about college hoops according to Dickie V.

No. 4 - Look at the response to the Billy Gillispie show in Lexington, Ky. Big Blue fans should be happy.

News Update: Michael Porter and Terrence Jennings

October 4, 2007

Basketball Injury
Kentucky Wildcat’s sophomore Michael Porter was injured during workouts, while diving for a loose ball. The incident caused him to suffer a concussion.

Michael was giving effort that we like to see,” head coach Billy Gillispie said. “It was unfortunate he suffered an injury in the process. We’ll monitor his progress and hope to have him, along with some other guys who are recovering from injuries, in time for Big Blue Madness.”

Do we have a injury bug or what? Hopefully he’ll be fine and ready for action soon.

An update on recruit Terrence Jennings. He’s apparently narrowed his list to four, leaving Kentucky, UCONN, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Here are some YouTube videos of Terrence Jennings

No Scrimmage
There will be no public Blue-White scrimmage this year. Billy Gillispie is wanting more practice time for the team because they will be playing their first exhibition game October 31st.

Wow, I know this is gonna be a blow to many. This was something that has been going on for years.

Gerald Fitch
Former Wildcat Gerald Fitch, was added to the Detroit Pistons’ camp roster on a non-guaranteed contract.

Blessed
Found this post “SEC Beattitudes“, on Your Mother Slept With Wilt Chamberlain, thought it was funny.

Blessed be Kentucky and its basketball program, for ensuring that a delusional fan base doesn’t just include Alabama. Blessed be Kentucky for giving us the 50 shots of Ashley Judd during national televised basketball games (bless her indeed)”

Recruiting News
Chris Diggs, has some news on recruits Jon Hood, Terrance Jennings, Verdell Jones and Gregory Stutz, which include some possible visits to Big Blue Madness.

Another Ranking
SCBPR (Steve’s College Basketball Pre-Season Ranking), has Kentucky at No. 21.

Gillispie has solid veteran pieces in Crawford and Bradley, solid potential pieces in Meeks and Jasper and solid rookies in Patterson and Legion.

But this team has too many flaws in the frontline to play consistently with Top 25 teams. Points in the paint won’t come easily. Gillispie will need at least one or two more recruiting classes to remedy that.”

Monday Update: Billy Gillispie Edition

October 1, 2007

There are a couple of reads on Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie.

First of which is..

A story about how companies have been getting in early with endorsements by Billy Gillispie. The article mentions ads with Dawahares and Family Home Health Care. It notes he will also be appearing in an ad for Windstream Communications, which is set to start running this week.
