This week’s edition of ‘Hump Links’, featuring a little of this and a little of that.
Game Recap
Via ESPN, complete recap of the Kentucky’s win over Georgia last night.
Habits
Kentucky makes a habit of closing out close games, last night’s game another example of it.
You’re Done
Freshman walk-on Dusty Mills was kicked off the team for laughing during Kentucky’s game with Georgia back on Feb 2nd.
Cameras caught him, along with teammate Morakinyo (Mike) Williams laughing when Ramel Bradley was laying on the floor with a concussion after a hard foul.
“He looked at me, confronted me and said, ‘You’re done,’ ” Mills recalled on Tuesday. “I said, ‘Yes, sir,’ because, you know, I had no idea what he meant.”
Mills said he never got a chance to tell his side.
After the Georgia game last night, Gillispie said he gave Mills that chance.
“They all get chances.” “He was a real good member of the team for a little bit.”
Mike Williams is safe so far. Gillispie confirmed on his radio show Monday that he’s still on the team.
All-American
Unsigned standout Scotty Hopson was named a member of the McDonald’s All-American team.
Kentucky signees DeAndre Liggins and Darius Miller were left off.
Gone, Gone, Gone
Former wildcat Alex Legion plans to join Illinois basketball team next season.
Were there factors that made it hard to leave Kentucky?
“Yea, you know I really didn’t want to leave. But the whole sitting out, that’s probably the only factor I had - just to change the climate. Other than that, no.”
The people you left, were there any problems there?
Oh, not really. I have a lot of friends here. Coach Gillispie wasn’t happy for me to leave. I don’t think any coach wants a player to leave. But at the same time it’s business. They understand, I understand, and you just go on.
Vaught’s View
Larry Vaught hints at a rift between Jodie Meeks and Coach Billy Gillispie.
G.J. Vilarino
Despite the rumors, G.J. Vilarino says he’s still committed to playing for the ‘Cats.
